The new technology, conceived by publisher Fernando Goncalves, combines a paper picture book with a companion app that monitors vocal cues and the physical handling of the pages.
As the child reads aloud, the app detects the speed and pitch of the voice and the turning of the album, then adapts a pre‑composed soundtrack to match, creating a personalized, immersive evening reading experience.
Poésie, a young independent house based in Varoise, filed a patent for the “livre lectophonique” concept, positioning it as an interactive youth reading format that reacts to the reader’s voice.
The company says the system is designed for bedtime stories, offering a musical layer that varies with each reading session, encouraging engagement and repeat use.
No commercial launch date has been announced, but Poésie plans to integrate the technology into its upcoming children’s titles.
