Independent bookstore Ute Hentschel calls for protection against market bias

Ute Hentschel’s shop in Burscheid published an open letter on social media urging publishers and distributors to stop disadvantaging independent booksellers.

The letter, addressed to publishers and distribution managers, was released just days before the start of the Independent Bookstores Week.

Ute Hentschel, together with 25 fellow independent booksellers, warns of a “growing disadvantage” faced by small retailers in the book trade.

In the open letter, the group argues that reliability should not become a competitive liability for independent shops, urging industry partners to ensure fair treatment.

The letter was shared publicly on social media and a copy was provided to Börsenblatt for publication.
