The Kulturamt of Fellbach confirmed that Ronya Othmann, a Berlin‑based writer born in Munich in 1993, will serve as the sole trusted selector for the 13th Mörike Prize, scheduled for 21 April 2027.

Othmann’s appointment follows the prize’s guidelines, which name a prominent literary figure to head the selection. She was named by a juror team that includes Sandra Richter, director of the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach, and Professor Sigrid Köhler of the University of Tübingen.

Othmann’s own literary credentials include the Ingeborg‑Bachmann Audience Prize (2019) for her poem “Vierundsiebzig,” the Mara‑Cassens Prize (2020) for the debut novel “Die Sommer,” and the Orphil‑Debütpreis Wiesbaden (2021) for the poetry collection “die verbrechen.”

Since 2021 she writes the “Import Export” column for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, and her recent books are “Vierundsiebzig” (2024) and “Rückkehr nach Syrien. Reise in ein ungewisses Land” (2025).

The Kulturamt will announce the 2027 laureate in the coming weeks, adding to a list of past winners that includes Wolf Biermann, W. G. Sebald and Jan Wagner.
