Spotify disclosed its new Audiobooks in Premium (ABP) offering during the Frankfurt Book Fair, initially targeting listeners in Spain, Colombia and Mexico. Additional launches are scheduled for Argentina, Brazil and a group of European nations—including Portugal, Italy, Norway and Poland—over the coming weeks.

Data presented at the LIBER Audio Days, supplied by Bookwire, show that in markets where Spotify already provides audiobooks—such as France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg—industry revenue has risen by roughly 30% within a few years. The platform’s entry is seen as expanding both the sales channel and the pool of potential listeners.

Latin America represents a significant opportunity, with about a quarter of Spotify’s global user base—over 700 million accounts—located in the region. The expansion is expected to stimulate greater adoption of the format across the continent, giving Spanish‑language publishers and producers unprecedented reach to a large, streaming‑savvy audience.

With the ABP rollout, Spotify now operates in close to 40 countries, up from the 22 markets it served previously. The company aims to extend the service to more than 180 territories by the end of 2026, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the Nordic states, the Middle East and South Africa.

Since its premium audiobooks launch in late 2023, Spotify has become an increasingly important sales avenue for digital publishers, boosting visibility and earnings through algorithmic discovery and a rapidly growing catalogue. A partnership with ElevenLabs also enables cost‑effective AI‑generated narration, complementing traditional human reads, especially for non‑fiction, educational content and short‑form stories.
